A play on rising interest in cryptocurrency, Coinbase Global (COIN) operates a platform to allow individuals and institutions to trade Bitcoin and over 45 other crypto assets. Essentially acting as both a brokerage and an exchange, Coinbase believes it offers a trusted and easy-to-use platform for users to enter the cryptocurrency space as well as a variety of supplemental tools and benefits, such as a peer-to-peer payment service for individuals and secure cold storage for institutions. Coinbase has captured market share during the recent run-up in Bitcoin prices, making it the largest Bitcoin exchange by volume. The company now plans to significantly ramp operating expenses in order to continue to roll out new products and increase its 6.1 million transacting users.
